FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Here are some the most frequently asked questions that I get about carpet and upholstery cleaning. If you have additional questions that you believe would be useful to my viewers, email your suggested question by clicking HERE.

Use these links to get to the answers quickly.

When you’re done with the cleaning will the carpet be wet for days?

But my neighbor told me the last time they had their carpets cleaned by a large, well known, company the carpets where wet for 3 days. Why?

How many jobs a day do you do?

Do you also take care of emergency water damage situations?

What about these companies that claim a “one hour” dry time?

Someone told me that I shouldn't have my carpets steam cleaned because they will re-soil more quickly. Is this true?

I’m considering buying one of those household, carpet cleaning machines. Won’t they do a good job of cleaning my carpets?

How come some companies only charge $99.95 for an entire house and you charge by the square foot? Isn’t your way more expensive?

When you’re done with the cleaning will the carpet be wet for days?

Because I use very hot water (which evaporates more rapidly) along with a powerful vacuum the carpets will be slightly damp for a few hours, not days.

But my neighbor told me the last time they had their carpets cleaned by a large, well known, company the carpets where wet for 3 days. Why?

Probably the lack of experience & skill on the part of the technician doing the work. Remember, it’s not “The Company” doing the cleaning, it’s the “technician”. The filters in the recovery system may have been clogged with carpet lint and dirt reducing the vacuum’s effectiveness. Extra drying passes with the wand weren’t taken because they were in a hurry, and under pressure, to get to the next job on time. No bonnet drying was even offered and fans were not utilized. There could be dozens of reasons an experienced, client oriented, operator could correct.

How many jobs a day do you do?

Some companies book 4 to 6 jobs, per truck, into one day, I’ll only book 1 large job or, up to, 3 small jobs. This way I’m not rushed to get your carpets done just to stay on schedule. Plus, if you wanted another room done or a chair cleaned at the last minute I can usually accommodate you without making another appointment!

Do you also take care of emergency water damage situations?

Absolutely! If that swimming pool in your basement wasn’t there the last time you looked you may want to call me to remove the water and dry the carpet and pad before it ruins your carpet, furniture and walls. The sooner the water is extracted the faster the carpet, pad, sub floor and sheet rock can dry! In most cases everything can be restored and mold and mildew can be prevented!

What about these companies that claim a “one hour” dry time?

They are not using a truck mounted hot water extraction process (AKA Steam Extraction). There are several dry or low moisture processes on the market today. Some people like the results, some don’t. Most every carpet manufacturer prefers the hot water extraction method since it is, without a doubt, the most thorough method of cleaning carpets. (Visit their web sites or their brochures and look for their sections on warranties and maintenance!) I’m one of only a couple of service firms in the area that even offers bonnet drying as a way to significantly reduce drying times! In most cases, with the use of my high-speed air movers in conjunction with bonnet drying, I can have your carpets dry in as little as 2 hours!

Someone told me that I shouldn't have my carpets cleaned because they will re-soil more quickly. Is this true?

Steam extraction cleaning technology has come a long way, especially in the last 10 years! It’s improving even as you read this! At one time residues did pose a re-soiling problem but, like any other industry, the problems were addressed and corrected with rinsing agents and more powerful vacuums. If your current carpet cleaner isn’t rinsing when they extract the dirt how can they claim that no residues are being left behind?

I’m considering buying one of those household, carpet cleaning machines. Won’t they do a good job of cleaning my carpets?

Those machines are fine to clean up spills and to keep the high-traffic areas looking clean between professional cleanings. But they are just not powerful enough to clean down to the base of the carpet where grit is wearing away at your fibers. Plus there’s no rinsing process to remove the residues left by the cleaning agents so your carpets may re-soil faster.

How come some companies only charge $99.95 for an entire house and you charge by the square foot? Isn’t your way more expensive?

Charging by the square foot is the most accurate and fair way to charge for carpet cleaning. You don’t pay for any more service than is required to give you “Really Clean Carpets”! Folks! Compare apples to apples! Ask them to come to your home and give you a free estimate detailing exactly what they will and won't do. Ask for a written guarantee detailing exactly what they will or won’t do if you are dissatisfied. The fact is they have offered these unrealistic low prices for over a decade. All I can say is my cost of gas, cleaning agents, labor, taxes, insurance, advertising, truck and equipment maintenance have gone up significantly in the last 10 years. Their math just doesn’t make any sense! They have to be making a profit somehow, aren’t they?
